CUTTING DOWN – TIPS TO STAY ON TRACK

Go Slo(w) - Tips to cut down

We recommend using the Go Slo(w) technique to keep your drinking on the right track. Here it is in detail:

Guidelines - stick to 2-3 units a day for women, 3-4 for men

The best way to stick to the guidelines is to work out in advance which drink you prefer and make sure the units are within these limits - you then know you can drink only this amount when you drink. After that, stick to the soft stuff. Our unit and calorie calculator can help you work this out.

Off days - take 1-2 days off a week, no alcohol

Having two or three alcohol free days per week helps the liver and other organs manage your drinking more effectively.

Switch - alternate you drinks between alcoholic and non-alcoholic

You can space your drinks out if you alternate one alcoholic one with a soft one - just make sure the overall amount of alcohol you drink is still within the daily guidelines.

Low - go for 3.5% beers, rather than 5%, 11% wines, rather than 14

Do some experimentation - be bold and try out lower strength equivalents of what you normally drink. You may not notice the difference in taste but your body will thank you for it.

O 2o - Water - drink before, during and after alcohol

Water helps keep you hydrated and can act as an alternative to alcohol in between drinks ñ use sparkling water or a Tonic if you prefer ñ this also helps you spread your drinking out.
